Rain + Bikes = Party
Apparently the flu has been going around pretty bad, because
for the past two weeks, lots of people haven't been at church, canceled
dinners, and opened the door, and said they were sick. The missionaries have
stayed away from it so far, hopefully it stays that way. The flu knocks people
down for a week or more.
It rained on Monday, and we biked home from the church from
basketball and got soaked, but that was just the beginning. We also got in
contact with a less active recent convert, and now have weekly lessons.
Tuesday was a full day of proslyting in the rain as we
didn't have district meeting. We also don't have fenders on our bikes, and I
learned why those suckers are so important, because I had dirt all over my face
and back. We figured out a way to stop splashing water straight into our lower
back and butt, but our faces were just getting junk thrown up into them the
whole time. It was awesome, and I am glad it was fairly warm while it was
raining. We decided to get rides after dinner.
We also visited a less active couple and their apartment was
full of books and so I got sooper dooper sucked into them. They had some of my
favorites like "the true meaning of smekday" and
"Insignia".
We also visited a less active who started off the
conversation by saying, yeah we are trying to become active again. Wish all
missionary work was that easy. Actually that is a lie, if it was all that easy
it just wouldn't be right.
We had zone conference in Yucaipa which is the farthest east
I have ever gone out here in the field. We talked about the Book of Mormon and
why it is so awesome. Basically it is the answer to any question someone may
have about our church, because if the people know the Book of Mormon is true,
than Joseph Smith was a prophet and the Church is true.
Testimony time! The Book of Mormon has brought so much good
into my life, as I read it I get some great life advice. All i have gotten out
of it is good, an evil man couldn't write something like that, and a good man
wouldn't. It is one of my favorite books.
Our miracle is one of our lessons fell through. We were a
but bummed out, but we had a lesson before with A & R, who are
trying to get baptized in March, we committed them to live the Word of Wisdom
and addressed how to read the Book of Mormon and understand it. Halfway through
that lesson our phone started blowing up. It turns out that a member had set up
a lesson with his friend and her family, so we shot over there right after and
had a bomb lesson, we read the Book of Mormon, and her mom asked us so what do
you believe in anyway, and at this point it was like 8:15 and we had to be back
at the apartment at 8:30 for exchanges, so we read through the Articles of
Faith, which are AWESOME, nice simple truths. And the mom thanked us for
answering her questions. We felt the spirit so strongly right there. And then
we pounded it back to the apartment to get ready for exchanges. If we had the
other lesson then we wouldn't have been able to have the sweet lesson with the
other family. God works in mysterious ways.
We had exchanges and it was fun because the missionary I was
with, Elder J had been out for a while, and he had his stuff together,
unlike Elder W and I, we just run around, with our new missionary
fire. But one of our investigators while teaching her about the gospel of Jesus
Christ (we mentioned baptism) and she went off talking about how she wants to
be baptized a mormon, and whether or not she was allowed to get baptized. We
said yes to both questions. It was awesome.
We had dinner on sunday at 2:30 with the F and I
really think they are on to something. They eat dinner right after church, then
take a nap, then wake up in the evening for a treat and some family time.
Thats it folks have a great week!
